Toshiba Portege M780

The Toshiba Portégé M780 is a good option for an affordable tablet PC, though the specs of this entry-level version are a little on the weaker side compared to similar units on our list. It’s bulky, heavy and not as thin as other systems (when closed); the screen easily swivels around to tablet mode. As with similar tablet PC systems, the Portégé M780 looks like a standard notebook when closed. The M780 features a 12.1-inch LED screen featuring WXGA technology, giving it a nice, bright overall appearance. The tablet PC also includes a 160GB hard drive, Intel HD graphics, an ExpressCard slot, a memory card reader, an eSATA/USB 2.0 port (the only unit to feature eSATA on our list), a Firewire/iLink IEEE 1394 port, Ethernet, a built-in modem, audio jacks and a docking connector.
Users can customize the system to have a larger hard drive, more RAM, a built-in webcam and microphone, a faster Intel Core i5 processor (up to 2.93 GHz) and other features. While the Toshiba Portégé M780 tablet PC we looked at is an affordable unit, it’s the entry-level option, giving it weaker technical specifications compared to similar models for around the same price. The lack of multitouch support is frustrating. Overall, it’s a good, if hefty, computer with a great 3-year warranty.
